Siamo più abituati a vedere paesaggi marini dalle caratteristiche placide, rilassanti, attraenti, più desueto trovarne dalle caratteristiche riflessive o introspettive, ma sicuramente è più difficile vedere un mare impetuoso, minaccioso se non finanche aggressivo.

L’aggressività del mare ci riporta alla mente scenari di una certa pittura di genere specializzata nel ritrarre velieri in balia della tempesta, ammantati di quel sublime fascino che accarezza la morte.

Questo mare di Scatizzi lambisce irruente la costa, promettendo una quiete prossima a venire per poi nuovamente tornare ad ingrossarsi e farsi minaccioso.

Le rosate sponde, abitate solo da sparute conifere mosse dal vento, inebriano la scena della naturale ruvidezza che caratterizza le coste non disciplinate dall’uomo.

Tutta l’opera manifesta il medesimo vigore, il quale viene ben marcato anche dalle energiche e frenetiche spatolate che sferzanti ed instancabili compongono il dipinto. 

Quella stessa caratteristica di indisciplinatezza è inoltre riscontrabile nello stesso scurolo che ne ospita la scena.

We are more accustomed to seeing seascapes with placid, relaxing, attractive characteristics; it is more unusual to find ones with reflective or introspective characteristics, but it is certainly more difficult to see a stormy, threatening, if not aggressive, sea.

The aggressiveness of the sea brings to mind scenes from a certain genre of painting specialising in portraying sailing ships at the mercy of storms, cloaked in that sublime charm that caresses death.

This sea by Scatizzi laps impetuously against the coast, promising a calm that is about to come, only to swell again and become threatening.

The pinkish shores, inhabited only by sparse conifers swaying in the wind, intoxicate the scene with the natural roughness that characterises coasts untamed by man.

The entire work manifests the same vigour, which is also clearly marked by the energetic and frenetic brushstrokes that compose the painting, lashing and tireless.

That same characteristic of undisciplinedness can also be found in the dark frame that houses the scene.
