Questa natura morta è molto interessante perché si pone a metà tra un fare citazionistico, ma al contempo, come una evoluzione stilistica delle nature morte affini.

Inevitabilmente il primo pensiero va alla “Canestra di frutta” di Caravaggio, ma anche alle nature morte di Vincenzo Campi, Bartolomeo Bimbi ed ai molti artisti che nel corso dei secoli si sono dedicati alle nature morte.

La cesta in questo caso è posta su un piano indefinito in ombra, essa però da questa oscurità emerge riuscendo a porsi completamente alla luce.

L’intreccio della paglia risulta fresco e dinamico, aspetto che deriva sicuramente dalla pennellata rapida che si mischia ai graffi apposti sul colore, probabilmente effettuati con una bacchetta di legno o semplicemente con l’impugnatura dello strumento.

Foglie e fiori sono appena accennati, senza una particolare definizione, riuscendo a trovare sostanza in grumi morbidi dalle molteplici sfaccettature.

This still life is very interesting because it is halfway between a quotation and, at the same time, a stylistic evolution of similar still lifes.

Inevitably, the first thought goes to Caravaggio’s “Fruit Basket”, but also to the still lifes of Vincenzo Campi, Bartolomeo Bimbi and the many artists who have devoted themselves to still lifes over the centuries.

In this case, the basket is placed on an undefined surface in shadow, but it emerges from this darkness and manages to stand out completely in the light.

The weave of the straw is fresh and dynamic, an effect that undoubtedly derives from the rapid brushstrokes mixed with scratches on the paint, probably made with a wooden stick or simply with the handle of the tool.

Leaves and flowers are barely hinted at, without any particular definition, managing to find substance in soft, multi-faceted lumps.
