Ponte alla Carraia non gode dei fasti di Ponte Santa Trinita, da cui i molti turisti ammirano o fotografano Ponte Vecchio ed il Cestello.

Ponte alla Carraia per molti secoli fu invece un ponte particolarmente ammirato, essendo il secondo per data di costruzione dopo Ponte Vecchio.

Dopo essere caduto più volte a causa delle piene dell’Arno vide tra i suoi progettisti personalità del calibro di Giotto e successivamente dell’Ammannati che si stava occupando contemporaneamente di Ponte Santa Trinita.

Come tutti gli altri ponti, ad eccezione di Ponte Vecchio, venne fatto saltare nel 1944 dai tedeschi in ritirata; l’attuale è il rifacimento del 1948.

Borgianni con la sua delicatezza riesce a mettere un accento su quelle bellezze meno blasonate e ridondanti facendole brillare di quell’emotività solo apparentemente sopita.

Ponte alla Carraia lacks the grandeur of Ponte Santa Trinita, from where many tourists admire or photograph the Ponte Vecchio and the Cestello.

After falling several times due to flooding of the Arno, it saw among its designers personalities of the calibre of Giotto and later Ammannati, who was simultaneously working on Ponte Santa Trinita.

Like all the other bridges, with the exception of the Ponte Vecchio, it was blown up in 1944 by the retreating Germans; the current bridge was rebuilt in 1948.

Borgianni with his delicacy succeeds in putting an accent on those less emblazoned and redundant beauties, making them shine with that only apparently dormant emotionality.
